Hair Mutiny

Well, we knew it was going to happen. It doesn't make it any easier though. Kavan started losing his hair today. I think this was very traumatic for him. Rather than let the cancer take his hair slowly, Kavan chose to have it buzzed this afternoon. Take that cancer! I have to say, he looks fantastic.

In other news, today is our 4th anniversary. Kavan, I love you and am so happy to be sharing our lives together. I feel that this experience has only deepened my love and admiration for you. You are truly my best friend.

What is Ewing's Sarcoma?

Ewings Sarcoma was first described by Dr. James Ewing in 1921. It can arise from a translocation between chromosomes 11 and 22. Basically, chromosome 22 contains the Ewing sarcoma gene and chromosome 11 is responsible for turning the genes on and off. A breakage and subsequent fusion of chromosomes 11 and 22 can result in Ewings sarcoma.

Ewing's sarcoma is a rare but agressive form of cancer requiring an intensive chemotherapy regimen. It is extremely rare to find in adult patients and only about three in one million adults are diagnosed with this type of cancer.
