Week 19, Day 1

Another week down in Kavan's fight against Ewing's sarcoma. As we said goodbye to week 18, week 19 started and with it another five days of chemotherapy. Unlike the majority of Canadians, Kavan did not receive a statutory holiday from chemotherapy. Bright and early this morning he was at the Cross Cancer Institute to begin another round of chemo.

So, first the good news. Kavan's chemotherapy went well today and besides feeling tired, he had no other symptoms.

Now, the bad news. The effects of radiation are starting to influence his everyday activities. He's finding it very difficult and painful to move around without some sort of assistance. This is likely related to the fact the radiation is targeting the area around his Achilles tendon. On the back of his foot he now has a very inflammed, sore-looking bruise. This area has become so sensitive to touch that Kavan even hates foot rubs now. Even though we were warned of the possible side effects of the radiation and this should be no real surprise, it's distressing to see Kavan unable to mobilize without his cane. I just want it to be over! Only nine days left, let's hope these days pass quickly. With Kavan receiving chemotherapy this week hopefully he'll be able to relax in bed and rest his foot.

Goofing around with Patrick this weekend
